About me and my therapy practice

Hello! I’m a dedicated counsellor based in central Edinburgh. I work with Individuals and Couples. I completed my diploma in Relational Integrative Counselling in 2016, which combines psychodynamic and humanistic theories to support clients as individuals.

Since then, I’ve aimed to continuously enhance my practice by learning from my clients and participating in ongoing professional development courses. I’m currently embarking on additional training in RLT (Relational Life Therapy) which has been profoundly impactful for my work with relationship difficulties.

Originally from the United States, I first moved to the UK in 2003. My personal experiences have fostered a deep fascination with how our context, background, language and differences shape our experiences of the world.

Practice description

I approach each person I meet with warmth, openness, and humour. I will listen empathically to what you have to say, offering insights, suggestions, and challenges that I believe will be helpful.

Together, we’ll form an understanding how things have been for you and why. We usually achieve this through conversation, though I also enjoy working creatively. Sometimes, being understood can be healing in itself. Often, we’ll go further and think about how you’d like things to be and how to make that happen. My goal is to help you feel supported and empowered to make positive changes.

I have a particular interest in supporting people who are experiencing:

• Relationship difficulties • Low self-esteem • Cultural differences • Neurodivergence • Loss/Bereavement

I welcome enquiries from people of all cultural backgrounds, ethnicities, racial identities, religious beliefs, abilities, sexuality, or gender identities.

My first session

Individuals: In our first session, I'll invite you to share your story of what brings you to therapy, and what you hope to get from it. I'll listen carefully and without judgement. We'll explore what working together might look like and whether it feels like a good fit. Individual therapy is held at the same day and time on a weekly basis.

Couples: The first session will be longer (90 minutes) in order to make space to hear both of you. I will invite you to let me know what this issues are, and I will let you know if I think I can help. Subsequent sessions are usually 60 minutes but if longer sessions would work better for you - we can discuss that.
