About me and my therapy practice

I am Josephine and a very warm welcome to my therapy page.

I am a Â鶹ԭ´´-accredited counsellor and Psychotherapist with over 10 years of experience working with adults. I offer a safe space, confidential, and non-judgemental space where clients can explore difficulties at their own pace and work towards meaningful and lasting change.

I work integratively, tailoring therapy to the individual rather than using a one-size-fits all approach. My work is strongly informed by Schema Therapy, alongside Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Person- Centred Therapy. This integrative approach allows me to address both present-day difficulties and the deeper, long-standing patterns that often develop in response to early life experiences.

A core focus of my work is childhood emotional neglect, and the ways unmet emotional neglect, and the ways unmet emotional needs in early relationships can shape beliefs about self and others, emotional regulation, and relational patterns in adulthood. Schema Therapy provides a helpful framework for understanding and working with these patterns, supporting clients to identify and change unhelpful schemas and coping modes and to develop healthier ways to meeting their emotional needs.

I commonly work with clients presenting with difficulties such as low-self-esteem, chronic feelings of emptiness, anxiety, depression, people-pleasing, perfectionism, relationship difficulties, emotional disconnection, and a strong inner critic, which are often linked to early emotional neglect and entrenched schemas

I work collaboratively and place a strong importance on the therapeutic relationship, aiming to offer a compassionate and supportive space in which clients can build self-awareness, self-compassion, and lasting change.

Practice description

I offer a warm, confidential and non- judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences at your own pace. My work is grounded in person-centred counselling, meaning I place great importance on building a trusting therapeutic relationship based on empathy, acceptance and respect. I believe that with the right support, people have an innate capacity for growth, healing and change .

Alongside this, I integrate Schema Therapy, which can be particularly helpful for understanding long- standing patterns that may be causing distress. Schemas are deeply held beliefs, or ways of relating to our selves and others that often develop early in life, together we can gently explore how these patterns may be affecting your emotions, relationships and choices in the present.

I aim to offer a safe and supportive environment where you feel heard, understood and valued, and where difficult experiences can be explored with care and compassion. I work in line with the Â鶹ԭ´´ Ethical Framework and engage in regular supervision and ongoing professional development to ensure ethical and effective practice.

My first session

What to expect from counselling

our first session is an opportunity for you to talk about what has brought you to counselling and what you hope to gain from it. I will also explain how I work, discuss confidentiality and boundaries and answer any questions you may have. There is no pressure to commit beyond this session - it's important that you feel comfortable and that counselling feels right for you.

Using Schema Therapy, we may also look at recurring emotional themes or coping patterns, helping you to understand where they come from and how they show up in your life now. This can support deeper self-awareness, emotional healing, and the development of healthier ways of relating to yourself and others.

1.Free initial sample session ( 20 minutes )

I offer an initial sample of therapy, which gives you the opportunity to experience how it feels to work with me and to ask any questions you may have. This session is not a commitment to ongoing counselling and is designed to help you decide whether my approach feels right for you

2. Relational safety and depth

I offer a steady, relational approach where emotional safety and trust come first, particularly for people who have found previous support too superficial or rushed

3. I have a focus on long-standing patterns (Schema Therapy angle)

I work particularly well with people who notice recurring patterns in their relationships or emotional life and want to understand where these come from, not manage symptoms

4. Integrating warmth with structured depth

Alongside a person- centred foundation, I integrate elements of Schema Therapy to help bring clarity to deeply rooted beliefs and emotional patterns while always working with a pace that feels safe and collaborative.

5. Support for clients who struggle to access emotions

I have experience working with clients who find it hard to access or express emotions, and who may have learned to cope by staying strong, rational and self-reliant.

About me and my therapy practice

I am Josephine a very warm welcome to my page.

I am a Â鶹ԭ´´- Accredited Psychotherapist/ Counsellor and Clinical Supervision with experience supporting counsellors and psychotherapists at different stages of their professional development. My supervision work is grounded in a collaborative, reflective, and ethically robust approach, offering a supportive space where supervisees can explore their clinical work with curiosity, honesty and care.

I work with trainees, newly qualified practitioners, and experienced therapist, adapting my supervision style to meet individual needs while maintaining a strong focus on client safety, ethical practice, and professional growth. My aim is to foster a supervisory relationship that balances support and challenge, encouraging supervisees to develop confidence, resilience and self-awareness in their work.

My supervisory approach is integrative , drawing on Humanistic, relational, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema therapy and Internal Family Systems (IFS) I place particular emphasis on the therapeutic  relationship, the use of self in practice, and the impact of power dynamics, and diversity within the clinical and supervisory space.

Supervision with me provides a containing environment where risk, safeguarding concerns, and complex clinical dynamics can be thoughtfully explored. I encourage reflective practice that supports ethical decision-making, professional accountability , and sustainable ways of working.

Practice description

I offer Clinical supervision to trainee and qualified counsellors and psychotherapists, working integratively and in line with Â鶹ԭ´´ ethical framework. My supervision approach is grounded in the Seven - Eyed Model of Supervision ( Hawkins & Shohet), providing a comprehensive and reflective space to explore client work, the therapeutic relationship, and the wider professional context.

Supervision sessions attend to the  Counsellor- Client process, interventions and skills, relational dynamics, internal responses, and parallel processes, as well as  organisational, ethical, and cultural influences. This holistic model supports depth, curiosity, and ethical awareness, enabling supervisees to develop confidence, resilience, and professional competence.

I aim to create a collaborative, supportive and appropriately challenging supervisory relationship, where supervisees feel safe to reflect openly on their work. Supervision is tailored to individual learning needs and stage of

professional development , with attention to safeguarding , risk management, self-care and ongoing professional growth.

I welcome supervisees from a range of modalities and levels of experience and I am committed  to inclusive practice.

My first session

My goal in my first supervision session is to create a space where you feel supported, stretched and safe to think out loud

1. I Co - create the supervision contract

cover :

* what makes supervision helpful for you

* How  the supervisee like feedback ( direct reflective, gentle challenge

* Boundaries: confidentiality, escalation, accountability

2. Normalise vulnerability early

example :

* Acknowledge that the first session can feel awkward

* not knowing is expected

* I briefly share my supervision philosophy

3. Focus on the therapist not just the case

Questions :

* What is it like for you to hold this work ?

* Where do you feel most confident right now ?

* what tends to unsettle you in sessions ?

4. Reflective framework

for example:

* Head- Clinical thinking

* Heart - emotional impact

* Hands- Intervention and skills

* Ethics/Self-care- risk, boundaries

5. Power and difference

I gently explore :

* Culture identities and differences

* How power dynamics might show up

* What the supervisee needs from me to feel respected and understood

6. End with intention

I close with:

*  one take away from today

*  one goal for future supervision

* How the session felt for the supervisee
