About me and my therapy practice

Counselling is about being listened to, heard and understood. It is about having a voice and telling our story and how it has affected us. It is about being seen. It is about not judging but understanding that we did the best we could at the time under those conditions. It is about understanding our reactions, our feelings, our behaviour and how it affects ourselves and others. It is taking a look at the beliefs and rules we have absorbed over the years from family, school, culture and things that have happened to us. It is being aware of those hidden beliefs that secretly influence our thoughts, feelings and behaviour. It about being courageous.

Through counselling we will unearth and take a good look at these hidden beliefs and choose which ones to keep, which to recycle and which to rewrite. From there you can start to make healthy choices that positively affect you and those around you. It is about understanding and growing towards the light.

I am a Christian working in a person centred way. I won't bring my faith into the counselling room unless invited. I won't judge or condemn as I believe there is always a reason behind our actions. Let's find out why.

I have a room at The Body Clinic, Leominster who operate an online booking system via their website or you can contact me direct. I also have a room at The Fred Bulmer Centre, Hereford.

Practice description

I am a person-centred counsellor. I believe that you are the expert on you, and that my role is to support you by working with you help untangle your thoughts and feelings. I agree with Carl Rogers, who pioneered person-centred theory: that we want to be the best version of ourselves. To do that it helps to discover what's going on in our heads in order to work through our life choices and to be the best we can be. Counselling is not about telling you what to do - it's about listening and wanting to understand how life feels in your shoes. And that's where I hope to help you.

What to expect

I offer a free 30 minute trial session so that you can see if you feel comfortable working with me and if I am the right counsellor for you. Subsequent sessions last 50 minutes and I believe it is beneficial to meet weekly for as many times as we both find helpful, whether that just be a few sessions or more longer term.

I am happy to work online using various video platforms or the telephone.

My first session

In our first meeting I like to start by asking you a few questions about yourself, why you would like counselling and what you are hoping to get out of it. What has prompted you to come now. If you decide you would like to work with me I will take more details and complete an assessment with you. The session is then over to you to talk about what you would like and if you are like me and your mind goes bland I will ask questions to get us going.

About me and my therapy practice

Â鶹ԭ´´ define supervision as: "A specialised form of mentoring provided for practitioners responsible for undertaking challenging work with people. Supervision is provided to ensure standards, enhance quality, advance learning, stimulate creativity, and support the sustainability and resilience of the work being undertaken."

As a qualified counselling supervisor, I offer professional supervision to other counsellors and therapists.  Supervision is an essential part of a counsellor’s practice – it ensures high standards, encourages ongoing learning, and supports the resilience and quality of the work we do with clients.

I have a lot of experience working with trainees on placement and my charge includes report writing as well as being available for extra supervision should a difficult counselling leave you feeling overwhelmed and not knowing what to do.  I also have lots of safeguarding experience.
