About me and my therapy practice
I have been a full-time psychotherapist for over 30 years, qualifying in 1995. Over the course of my career I have conducted more than 30,000 one-to-one therapy sessions, working with clients experiencing trauma, anxiety, relational distress, and complex psychological presentations. I hold a Master’s degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy and am a qualified EMDR practitioner, having completed accredited training with EMDR Europe.
I am the Founder and Director of Lewis Psychology, a counselling and psychotherapy organisation that holds Service Accreditation from the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (Â鶹Դ´).
My therapeutic approach is integrative and grounded in relational and evidence-informed practice. I draw from a range of established psychological approaches depending on the needs of the individual, including Transactional Analysis (TA), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Gestalt psychotherapy, and experiential methods such as chairwork.
Alongside my clinical practice, I have developed psychological training resources that are used in institutions globally including The Open University, Boston University and Aurora University.
My training has also informed professional development programmes within organisations including the United States Department of Defense, the Australian Department of Justice and Community Safety, and the UK Civil Service.
Examples of my educational work can be viewed on the Lewis Psychology YouTube channel, where I share psychologically informed teaching on trauma, nervous system regulation, and therapeutic practice. My aim in this work is to make complex psychological and neuroscientific concepts accessible to both professionals and the wider public, helping to strengthen understanding of how lasting psychological change becomes possible.
Practice description
I am the Founder and Director of Lewis Psychology, the only organisation in Wolverhampton to achieve Service Accreditation from the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (Â鶹Դ´). This accreditation reflects a commitment to the highest standards of practice in the counselling and psychotherapy profession and is widely recognised as a mark of quality and excellence.
Â鶹Դ´ Service Accreditation is awarded to organisations that demonstrate exceptional clinical standards, ethical integrity, and a dedication to delivering high-quality, evidence-based psychological services. It provides assurance to both the public and professionals, setting a benchmark for counselling and psychotherapy services across the UK.
At Lewis Psychology, we are committed to providing compassionate, effective, and ethical mental health support. This dedication has been recognised through multiple awards, including an Ethical Business Award, which acknowledges our commitment to responsible practice, fairness, and transparency. We have also been named Best Rated Counselling Service, reflecting our ongoing efforts to deliver outstanding client care.
These recognitions reinforce our mission to offer professional, high-quality psychological support, ensuring that every individual who seeks our services receives the best possible care in a safe and supportive environment.
My first session
Free Initial Telephone Consultation
I offer a free, 15-minute, no-obligation telephone consultation to help determine whether our services are the right fit for you. This conversation allows you to share a little about your concerns, ask any questions about the therapy process, and explore whether counselling or psychotherapy would be beneficial for your needs.
If you decide to proceed, I will gather your contact details along with relevant information about any current medications, mental health conditions, physical health issues, or disabilities that may be impacting your well-being. This helps ensure that therapy is tailored to your individual circumstances.
Your First Session
The first counselling or psychotherapy session provides a safe and supportive space to explore your concerns. You will have the opportunity to talk about what has brought you to therapy and any challenges you are facing at a pace that feels comfortable for you. If relevant, we may also explore aspects of your background, relationships, or past experiences that could be contributing to your current difficulties.
We will also discuss what you hope to gain from therapy and whether you have any specific goals. Some clients have clear objectives, while others may be unsure. Either way, we will work together to identify what would be most helpful for you.
Towards the end of the session, we can arrange another appointment at a time that suits you. There is no pressure to continue—this is your choice, and you are welcome to take time to decide.
