About me and my therapy practice
I offer talking therapy in a confidential, safe and relaxing environment. It may be easier to talk about personal issues, in an alternative place, with someone who is not involved and is totally non-judgemental.
Counselling is my passion! I believe we were born to be real...not perfect. My belief in the process, how it works and in particular how the working alliance can help you to move forward never stops.
Person Centred Counselling is a non-directive approach. It provides therapeutic support and enables you, the client, to utilise free thinking. It is a highly effective way of personal growth. CBT counselling enables you to examine your thoughts with a behavioural approach.
Having worked extensively with domestic abuse and carers of dementia I feel like my work is taking me down this path. This has led me to somewhere where I can build a therapeutic relationship with you, the client, to explore what it is you want from counselling and to be able to recognise the impact of how this has effected you.
Practice description
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT):
CBT is a structured, short- to medium-term approach that focuses on the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. The idea is that unhelpful thinking patterns can lead to emotional distress and problematic behaviours. In CBT, we work together to:
Identify negative or unhelpful thoughts
Challenge and reframe them
Develop more balanced thinking
Learn practical strategies to manage stress, anxiety, low mood, or other difficulties
CBT is often goal-oriented and works well for specific issues like anxiety, depression, phobias, or low self-esteem. It often involves exercises and techniques you can practise between sessions.
Person-Centred Counselling:
This is a more open-ended, non-directive approach based on the belief that you are the expert on your own experience. It focuses on creating a safe, accepting, and empathetic space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace. In person-centred counselling:
You lead the direction of each session
The counsellor offers understanding, empathy, and unconditional positive regard
There is no judgment or pressure to 鈥渇ix鈥 things quickly
The goal is to support your self-awareness, self-acceptance, and personal growth
This approach can be especially helpful when you're feeling lost, stuck, or unsure what the issue is, and need space to explore.
My first session
The initial session is all about beginning to build a relationship of trust between you and your counsellor. It's a time for us to get to know each other and to establish a safe, respectful environment where you feel comfortable to talk.
We鈥檒l start with contracting, which means we鈥檒l go over how the sessions will work, what kind of therapy is being offered, the practical arrangements (such as session length and frequency), and important boundaries, including confidentiality.
You鈥檒l have space to talk about what brings you to counselling, and we may begin to identify some initial goals based on your concerns. There is no pressure to have everything figured out鈥攖his session is just the first step.

Practice description
Supervision is vital to ensure that you and your clients are safe by exploring your clinical and professional issues in a safe and confidential environment. I offer supervision in both Person Centred and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for trained counsellors and student counsellors. The supervision takes place and is structured within the Proctors Supervision Model and Hawkins & Shohet Seven Eyed Model. A main aim within the supervision is to allow for changes to be monitored and discussed and to monitor ethical issues, the relationship, safeguarding issues and professional development. I promote open feedback and discussion about the supervisory alliance to work towards an effective element of clinical supervision.
