About me and my therapy practice
I am a fully qualified Psychotherapist with over 30 years post-qualifying experience.
I have worked in clinical settings, including CAMHS and NSPCC as well as statutory services including Cornwall, Devon and Bristol Avon North Somerset Local Authorities. I have worked with young people in Schools, Colleges, Crown Courts, and as an advocate within the criminal justice system.
My background is both in Mental Health and Safeguarding, and I specialise in helping young people and adults make sense of how early trauma and childhood experiences can impact on current difficulties, such as re-current depression and anxiety, or destructive cycles of addiction and insecure personal relationships.
I have extensive experience of young people's mental health and wellbeing, including issues of self harm and self-esteem.I have worked with looked-after children, children in Care and adoption issues.
I am an Accredited member of 麻豆原创 and abide by the code of professional conduct and ethics. I work within Data protection guidelines and my practice is confidential and supervised.
I currently work in private practice and as a Counsellor for staff working in the NHS.
Practice description
I live in a small mid Devon Village (approx 9 miles from the university town of Exeter).
Clients can choose to meet face to face in the consulting room, or work on line, or a hybrid of both.
Appointments are for a full 1 hour.
The early sessions focus on establishing trust between us, exploring attachment history, and working towards building a therapeutic relationship.
My work as a Psychotherapist is grounded in the needs of the client and I work in a Psychodynamic way鈥 gathering information, sharing ideas and teaching skills (as appropriate) such as mindfulness, neuroscience and the bodies reaction to stress and Trauma.
I am assisted by an experienced therapy Dog and there is an option if preferred to 鈥渨alk and talk鈥 in the local countryside.
Preferences can be discussed on enquiry or during the initial Assessment.
My first session
I offer a one hour assessment session, where we discuss history and current difficulties and think how best to work together to help.
Then we either set dates/ times - or if more appropriate I can signpost you to statutory services.
The assessment fee is 拢70 subsequent fees are 拢60.
I am offering in-person or on-line video appointments.
Please get in touch if you would like to book an assessment, and it would be helpful if you can let me know if you are looking for a day time or evening appointment.
