About me and my therapy practice

Hello, my name is Jean.  Are you wanting to bring about changes to your life?  Maybe things feel overwhelming and difficult and you do not know how to move on.  I can provide an opportunity to explore any worries or concerns that you are experiencing.

I am a Â鶹ԭ´´ Accredited counsellor and have over 20 years' experience working in the NHS, a local Hospice and a Young Offender Institution.

My aim is to offer a warm, friendly and supportive counselling service in a safe environment.

I welcome clients from all walks of life and with a wide range of issues.

I use a range of models based on my person centred integrative training including Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Person Centred, Gestalt, Solution-Focussed, TA and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy which enables me to adapt to your needs.

Practice description

It can be daunting talking about sensitive issues that perhaps you have never spoken to anyone about, or are currently struggling with something going on in your life.

Reaching out for help when you are depressed, anxious or have feelings of low self-esteem and doubt is hard but my aim is to support you in making changes and improve your overall well-being.

Our work together will involve understanding the underlying causes of these struggles, employing techniques to manage and alleviate symptoms and strategies and tools for building resistance and personal growth.

My aim is to listen and truly understand your story, to enable you to make sense of what is currently happening in your life.  Sharing our thoughts and feelings can help us see a different perspective and find a way through.

From working in the NHS as a High Intensity Counsellor, engaging with a wide variety of clients presenting with problems that reflected a varying range of severity.

Working in a local Hospice supporting bereaved clients gave me a special interest in bereavement, grief and loss and enabled me to offer a safe space to process their emotions and help them adjust to life following a significant loss.

I will assist with the emotional, physical, social and cognitive responses to your grief.

Mourning takes time and there is no 'quick fix' but I can help with strategies that will promote healing and eventual acceptance of your situation.

I also have extensive experience working with adults aged 18-21 affected by childhood emotional, physical or sexual abuse which led to traumatic, life altering wounds.

Although we cannot alter the past, we can work together so it no longer defines your present or future.

FURTHER TRAINING

I have obtained further training in:-

  • Supervision in an IAPT Service
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Breaking Bad News & Resolving Family Conflict
  • Cruse Bereavement Care
  • Dissociation
  • Creative Approaches to Working with Depression
  • Life Pregnancy Care Service

My first session

Our first session will be for one and a half hours to include an assessment, which is an important part of the therapeutic process and will assist me in deciding the best way to help you move forward.   The charge for this initial session will be £60.

This will also give you an opportunity to explore and externalise some of the difficulties you have been experiencing.

During this time, we will also decide whether short or long term therapy is appropriate.

Thereafter, we will meet for an hour on a weekly basis.
