About me and my therapy practice

Well done for taking the first step in seeking support. Reaching out for help can often feel like the hardest and most daunting part of the process, so the fact that you are here already shows courage and a willingness to create change. I hope that reading my profile helps you feel a little more comfortable about taking the next step in your therapeutic journey.

I have worked in mental health for over 17 years and have been a qualified counsellor for more than 13 years.

I am experienced in working with people who experience intense or overwhelming emotions that can feel difficult to manage and may affect relationships, decision-making, or day-to-day life. I also specialise in working with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

My experience includes working with people facing complex and long-standing difficulties, so I understand how frustrating it can feel when problems have been present for a long time or when previous attempts to cope haven’t brought the relief you hoped for.

I am an integrative therapist, which means I will draw on a range of therapeutic approaches to support you the way that suits you best. My work is informed by person-centred therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), attachment-based approaches, and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT). This integrative approach allows therapy to be tailored to your individual needs, concerns, and personality, rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

Alongside my core training, I have undertaken additional professional development in areas including emotion regulation and working with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

At the heart of my work is creating a safe and supportive space where you can talk openly about what you are experiencing. Together, we can begin to make sense of your thoughts and emotions, develop helpful ways of coping, and work towards the changes you would like to see in your life.

Practice description

Sessions are conducted in a private, comfortable and welcoming counselling room.

All therapy is provided within an empathic and non judgemental environment to support you to gain an increased understanding and awareness of yourself and to help you work towards realising and achieving your goals.

*please note that I charge £80 a session for DBT informed sessions.

My first session

Before starting regular sessions, it is important to have an assessment session to see how we feel about working together.

In an assessment session, we will spend 50 minutes together. During this time, we will talk about the reasons you decided to access therapy and what you would like to gain, change or do with your sessions.

We will also agree a contract of working which outlines what you can expect from me as your counsellor, and outlining confidentiality, data protection etc.

If we decide to go ahead after the initial assessment session, we will discuss the frequency of your sessions and book in your next appointment.

About me and my therapy practice

I offer reflective and supportive supervision for counsellors in training as well as qualified therapists.

My aim is to create a collaborative space where you can think openly about your clinical work, explore challenges and uncertainties, and continue developing confidence in your practice.

Supervision with me is intended to support both your professional development and your wellbeing as a therapist.

Together we can reflect on client work, ethical questions, relational dynamics and the impact the work has on you.

I have over 17 years’ experience working in the mental health field, including roles in schools, further education and university settings, as well as work within a forensic environment. I have been in private practice for nearly 10 years and have several years’ experience supervising both trainee and qualified counsellors.

My approach to supervision is grounded in curiosity, collaboration and respect for the complexity of therapeutic work.

I create a space where supervisees feel able to explore their work honestly and thoughtfully while developing their clinical judgement and professional identity.

I am committed to anti-oppressive and culturally competent practice, and I welcome supervisees from all backgrounds.

I believe that our identities and wider social contexts inevitably shape both our therapeutic work and our supervision conversations, and I aim to hold space for these reflections within the supervisory relationship.

I welcome enquiries from counsellors in training who require supervision for placement, as well as qualified therapists seeking ongoing professional support.

My first session

In our first supervision session, the focus is on getting to know one another and beginning to build a safe, collaborative supervisory relationship. Supervision works best when there is openness, trust and a shared understanding of how we will work together, so the first session gives us space to explore this.

If you are already seeing clients we will spend some time discussing your current work and professional context, including the clients you typically see, the setting you work in, and the kinds of challenges or areas of development you would like support with in supervision. You are welcome to bring a client or piece of work to discuss if you would find that helpful, but this is not essential for the first meeting.

If you are a student preparing to begin client work and not yet seeing clients, we can use the first session to explore your training, any expectations or anxieties you may have about starting placement, and the areas where you would most value support as you move into practice.

We will also talk through the practical and ethical aspects of supervision, such as confidentiality, record keeping, and how we will approach safeguarding and risk where relevant. This helps ensure we are working in a clear and ethically sound way.

The first session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions about my approach to supervision and to reflect on whether the way I work feels like a good fit for you. My aim is to create a supportive and reflective space where you feel able to think openly about your client work, develop your clinical confidence, and explore the emotional impact of therapeutic practice.

By the end of the session, we will usually have a shared understanding of your supervision needs and how we might structure our work together going forward.
