About me and my therapy practice
Counselling practice based in Norwich city centre
I am a person-centred therapist with over 30 years of experience. I work with individuals and couples.
Practice description
I like to work face to face where this is possible but do also offer counselling online or by phone
My first session
The first session is exploratory, a chance for you to tell me about what brings you to counselling and any sense you have of what you would find helpful or important. I would hope also to give you a flavour of how I work, and to talk through the practical aspects with you. I can check that I feel able to offer what you need and you can get a feel for whether I am somebody that you could work with. I offer a full hour for this session at the reduced rate of £40/hour.

About me and my therapy practice
I worked as a counsellor trainer and course director for the universities of Aberdeen, UEA, and Suffolk between the years 1999-2020. I have also delivered workshops and training sessions for other organisations (both voluntary and statutory) throughout my counselling career, and facilitated person-centred encounter groups.
I now focus on my private work as a counsellor and supervisor but remain interested in contributing on occasion to counsellor training or to offering workshops to organisations.
Practice description
I have a particular interest in person-centred theory and practice, its foundations and ongoing development.
I am also interested in working with groups to explore areas of personal experience, or particular themes related to personal and/or professional development.

About me and my therapy practice
I have been working as a counsellor for over 30 years, and qualified as a counselling supervisor in 1998. As a supervisor I work with individuals and groups, experienced therapists and students, in private practice and for organisations.
My initial counselling training and my training as a supervisor were person-centred and my work has become more and more grounded in/by this rich and growing tradition. As a counsellor trainer in universities (1999-2020) an ongoing engagement with theory and research has both informed my own practice and supported me in supervising fellow practitioners. This experience has also given me an awareness of the needs of trainee counsellors and an enjoyment of working with them in supervision.
As a supervisor my aim is to offer a warm, boundaried space in which you can explore your client work and ongoing personal and professional development as a practitioner. Working with your awareness of what needs attention, I will support you to consider your own process in your therapeutic relationships, and help you to think about the therapeutic process as it may be for your clients, in terms of the theories that inform your practice. I will offer perspectives from my own experience and the wider professional context as this feels helpful.
I have experience of supervising person-centred and integrative practitioners and also service managers and users of counselling skills. I believe that we can be helpful to clients in quite different ways but that we are safest and probably most effective when we reflect on our rationale for what we ‘do’ (and don’t do) and are reflexive in our work; a supervision relationship in which we are responded to attentively, congruently and respectfully, where we can be honest and explore freely, helps make space for this.
Practice based in NR8 and Norwich city centre.
