About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced highly qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist.
I have been practising privately for 23 years with adults from 18 to 80 years old.
In the past, before setting up privately, I worked in a GP Surgery and also in University Student Counselling Services -
My background:
Before training as a Counsellor (Cambridge University) and then as a Psychotherapist (The Guild of Psychotherapists London) I held a full-time University Lectureship in English Literature at Dublin University where I loved working with students who enjoyed reading and thinking about how fictional characters experienced their lives .
Originally, in my late teens, I went to Drama College (at The Guildhall School in London) and qualified as a drama teacher but decided not to teach drama but to learn more about drama and literature at University.
And so I went on to University.
As a University student I obtained a first class degree in French and English Literature in Dublin and a post graduate degree on the novels of George Eliot from Cambridge University.
My interest in character and emotions in fiction then led me to train as a psychotherapist and counsellor in order to work with real people (rather than fictional ones) experiencing emotional difficulties in their lives.
For the past 23 years I have very much enjoyed working with a wide range of people helping them to deal with sometimes difficult feelings and experiences or just providing an uninvolved responsive and empathic ear in a supportive confidential relationship.
How I work
I really like people and I aim to quickly establish a relaxed, informal and friendly relationship so that we can begin to look at what may be difficult and painful issues easily and in confidence, with a feeling of safety, respect and confidence.
I offer short term work - up to 12 sessions
Longer if the issues require more time.
This can be discussed when we meet.

See below for my therapy approach
Practice description
I have been practicing for the past 23 years
I work with adults with whatever issue they want to discuss.
In supervision I work with trained practitioners and trainees
In my therapeutic work over the years I have developed the way I work so that although I trained as a psychodynamic and psychoanalytic therapist I now work in a much more open way using all my experience and development creatively to help each individual as much as I can.
I am flexible empathic and sensitive to the individual needs of those I see in my consulting room
My first session
In supervision I listen to the case the counsellor or therapist or trainee brings and then we start discussing the case in detail focusing on the issues the therapist/counsellor wishes to discus.
In my therapeutic work I have developed a flexible imaginative empathic way of responding to the unique needs of those who come to see me for their personal development and therapeutic help
