About me and my therapy practice
I am Richard Schafer, a professionally trained registered counsellor (MÂ鶹Դ´). I practice from London / Clapham SW4.
I qualified as a psychodynamic counsellor in 2003 and began private practice in 2004. In addition I have spent over 12 years working in the field of talking therapies as a clinical lead within therapeutic residential settings.
I offer supportive and empathetic therapy, focusing on you as a unique individual with your own experiences in a wide range of areas. This may include low mood, relationship difficulties, stress, anxiety, addiction, low self-esteem, lack of confidence and feelings of worthlessness.
There are often multiple reason why you might be experiencing distress or upset in your life. The therapy I offer is a gentle process that can help you restore your natural sense of harmony and balance. I provide you with the time, attention and respect needed to explore, discover and address your worries.
I work with an integrative model which incorporates a range of therapeutic principles, including psychodynamic and person centred practice. This approach aligns with my personal philosophy that individuals may need specific strategies at different points during therapy. My philosophy has been shaped by my professional training together with my broad work and personal life experiences.
