About me and my therapy practice

I have over 18 years’ experience working in counselling, supervision, and education, including roles in higher education, private practice, and charitable organisations. I have a diverse range of professional experience

As a Lead Counsellor, I currently manage a trauma-informed service for police officers and veterans, alongside my private practice supporting adults and trainee counsellors.

My training for supervision is informed by the model of Hawkins & Shohet Seven eyed process model and Holloway's systems approach. I work in a reflective way and encourage this within supervision. I am passionate about supervision and the importance of its role within therapeutic practice.

"A working alliance between the supervisor and counsellor in which the counsellor can offer an account or recording of their work; reflect on it; receive feedback and where appropriate guidance. The object of this alliance is to enable the counsellor to gain in ethical competence, confidence and creativity in order to give their best possible service to the client." (Inskipp & Proctor)

Practice description

For a supervisory relationship to be effective it is important that we work collaboratively in a understanding and open way. A supervisee should feel safe to explore their work without being judged or feeling there is no balance of power. By us both being honest and open we can build a relationship that is both beneficial to you and to your clients.

I am passionate about supporting and encouraging other counsellors, both trainee and qualified, in their professional development.

Should you decide that we can work together, then I will strive to build and maintain your trust, honour and value your beliefs and identify and build on your strengths. Supervision is a vital part of our work, to give us the chance to offload, reflect, develop and grow and prevent compassion fatigue.

About me and my therapy practice

I believe in a holistic approach to overcoming the difficulties we can often face in life and I offer safe, non-judgmental and confidential support in helping you find ways to regain a sense of emotional well-being.

I work as an integrative counsellor, which means I use a range of theoretical models to facilitate profound and positive change. My work is client led, so we work on the issues you bring. Our work is tailored to suit you, I don't offer a one size fits all approach.

I work from a relational and integrative perspective, combining creativity and compassion with evidence-based practice. My aim is to meet you where you are, at your pace — integrating the mind, body, and the emotional self.

I believe healing happens within a trusting relationship where you feel heard, valued, and supported to make meaningful change.

I began my counselling studies after the sudden death of my father in 2001. I wanted to understand more about the grieving process and how to help others with emotional and personal difficulties. It changed the course of my life and my career. Since qualifying I have worked as a counsellor within Education, in the Public and Voluntary Sectors and I have a wealth of diverse experience working with a number of issues.

"I am here as another flawed, human being. Willing to encounter you with honesty and openness. I understand that you are unhappy and want to change the way you are. I also believe that fundamentally you are okay, that you have understandable reasons for the way you are and that you will make changes when you are ready to take that risk" (Janet Tolan)
