Psychological practitioners’ perceptions and understandings of consensual non-monogamy in the therapeutic setting - a vignette study
For my doctoral thesis, I am researching psychological practitioners’ perceptions and understandings of consensual non-monogamy in the therapeutic setting.
My interest in this studying this topic area is fuelled by an interest in relationships generally. More specifically in relation to the therapeutic setting, I am interested in how psychological practitioners might work with clients regarding relationships, intimacy and/or sex, with a specific interest in relationships that are consensually non-monogamous.
This research uses vignettes which are short fictitious scenarios. In this study the scenarios introduce some characters participating in therapy.
What taking part involves: the participants will be asked to read the vignette which is in three parts. Each part, or increment, will be a short paragraph each. The vignettes are based on a single story with each part progressing the story of these characters who are a couple attending therapy. At the end of the first and second parts of the vignette you will be asked to answer a few questions in response to the scenarios you have been presented with. In the third and final part you will be invited to write a response in the form of a short story about what you think might happen next to the fictional characters.
The vignettes will be completed online using survey software called Qualtrics, which is a survey platform. The participants will not need to have an account with Qualtrics. All they need to do is follow the link to the Qualtrics page, give consent and they can participate.
