The Glass Child – Invisibility and the Impact on Self

Hello,

My name is Rachell, I am a student member of the Â鶹ԭ´´ and in my final year studying BA (hons) in Integrative Counselling.

I am conducting a small-scale research project and am looking for research participants to help with this study:

Glass Children – Invisibility and the impact on self

Glass Children is a term used to describe the invisibility of those who grow up with a sibling who has a disability, chronic illness, or other significant needs.

There is currently limited research on the lived experience of those who have grown up as glass children. My research project aims to explore these experiences and understand the potential impact on glass children.

This research is personal to me as I have a disabled child and two non-disabled children and hoping that the findings will inform my own practice when working with these clients.

I am looking for 4 qualified counsellors who have grown up as glass children to participate in in this qualitative study. Due to my research focusing on those without disability, I will screen out participants that identify as having a disability. Whilst this may seem exclusive, it is consistent within the guidance of the Equality Act (2010), which allows for targeted research involving specific groups when justified by the research objectives.

Participants will be required to attend an online 1-hour interview on Microsoft teams, where I will use semi structured questions to gather my data.

On submission of my research project, all data will be destroyed in line with GDPR regulations, and all participants information will be anonymised throughout the course of the project.

I have received ethical approval to conduct this research project.

Please see the consent form here, the participant information sheet here, and the poster here.

If you meet the criteria and are interested in participating, please email 19154051@students.ncclondon.ac.uk

Thank you, Rachell
